The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has become the deadliest in the country's history. According to government data released Sunday, at least 2,325 people have been killed, surpassing the death toll from the 2018-2020 outbreak.

Congo's public health institute reported that confirmed cases have risen to 4,945, including 101 new cases detected in the previous 24 hours. The disease is spreading rapidly, with deaths recorded at a rate of one every 28 minutes last week as authorities struggle to contain the outbreak.

A top UN official has called for speed, scale, and solidarity to address the crisis before the virus gets even further ahead.
