Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was charged in federal court on Monday with three counts, including attempting to assassinate President Trump. The charges stem from an alleged attempt to storm the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

In addition to the assassination attempt, Allen faces two firearms charges, including the use and transport of firearms and discharging a weapon during a crime of violence. According to a detention memo filed by federal prosecutors, Allen was allegedly carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives when he tried to enter the event.

Court documents filed by prosecutors indicate that Allen allegedly began planning the attack three weeks ago. The man accused of the assassination attempt will stay in custody.
