Air traffic at Kenya's main international airport in Nairobi has slowed significantly due to a workers' strike, leaving thousands of travelers stranded as flights are delayed or canceled. The industrial action, which continued into its second day on Monday, has also affected other Kenyan airports.
The go-slow action is being staged by air-traffic control workers under the Kenya Aviation Workers Union. Employees are protesting poor working conditions and a lack of support from relevant authorities while demanding better pay.
Kenya Airways and its subsidiary Jambojet have reported extended flight delays at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a major hub for regional and international travel. The Kenya Airports Authority issued a statement advising travelers to check with their carriers before heading to the airport.
Negotiations between the union and authorities are currently ongoing to resolve the dispute. This disruption follows a similar strike in February that also left passengers stranded at the airport.
