Ukraine is responding to eased international oil sanctions on Russia with long-range strikes targeting the country’s energy infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated the strikes are intended to maintain pressure on Russia following the recent relaxation of sanctions, particularly after the Iran war.
Overnight, Ukraine targeted a key oil refinery in the Leningrad region, continuing a series of intensive attacks on Baltic energy facilities this week. These actions come as the United States issued a 30-day waiver allowing countries to purchase sanctioned Russian oil and petroleum products.
Reports indicate Russia has potentially launched a spring offensive, however, no significant territorial gains have been reported. Ukraine has responded to the offensive with strikes on Russian oil terminals.
