The Emmy Award-winning satirical show South Park is changing its name to South America for its 29th season. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced the title change, stating that the show will be known as South America at least for now.
The move follows recent efforts by President Donald Trump to incorporate the word America into the names of a lake, a gulf, and a U.S. state since beginning his second term. Trump has pushed to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America and the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, and utilized an AI-generated attempt to rebrand New Mexico as New America.
Parker and Stone, whose show is known for crude language and lampooning hot-button social issues, said they were inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google. This follows the two companies' decisions to capitulate to the president's requests to change the name of Lake Ontario.
