Devastating flash floods in Nepal have killed almost 800 people and left thousands missing. Amidst this catastrophe, school principal Rajendra Dawadi's quick decision to evacuate his school saved at least 900 students last week.
The evacuation began when Dawadi's accountant rushed into the school shouting that the flood was coming. After receiving warnings from upstream regarding the scale of the flooding heading their way, Dawadi halted classes and ordered children to higher ground.
Dawadi had less than 15 minutes to act, with just 14 minutes of warning before a wall of mud water swept through the town. While some schoolchildren survived by leaving their classrooms for lunch, the school itself no longer exists.
