Doris Fisher, co-founder of the iconic clothing chain The Gap Inc., has died at the age of 94. She passed away on Saturday and was recognized as an avid art collector and philanthropist.

Fisher co-founded the company in 1969 with her late husband, Don Fisher. Together, they opened the first Gap store on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco, where she coined the name "The Gap."

The business grew from a single store selling jeans and records into a $16 billion brand. Fisher is widely credited with helping to revolutionise the fashion industry in the US and remaking the apparel industry.

The company did not disclose the cause of Fisher's death.
