The number of confirmed deaths in the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has risen to 600. Confirmed cases have increased to 1,708, and the haemorrhagic fever outbreak currently has a case fatality rate of 34 percent.
The World Health Organisation stated that the outbreak has not yet stabilised and is still expanding. Suspected cases have been recorded in the provinces of Tshopo and Haut-Uele, signaling the spread of the disease beyond the epicenter in Ituri and into previously unaffected regions.
The outbreak is currently spreading faster than the response. This crisis is exacerbated by healthcare workers who are threatening to walk off their jobs amid delays in payments.
