California Representative Eric Swalwell has resigned from Congress following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. The resignation came after Lonna Drewes publicly accused him of drugging and raping her in 2018, detailing the alleged incident at a press conference in Beverly Hills.
Drewes stated she met Swalwell while working as a model and being involved in local politics. Her attorney indicated that evidence supporting the claims would not be presented to the media.
Swalwell had already been facing a criminal investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office regarding a separate sexual assault allegation. He previously ended his campaign for governor of California following reports of another accusation involving two nonconsensual sexual encounters.
Despite the allegations, Swalwell has maintained his innocence and pledged to fight the claims.
