Russian strikes on Ukrainian aid center kill at least 26 after ceasefire ends

Russian airstrikes on Monday targeted a school serving as a humanitarian aid distribution center and a neighboring shelter in the village of Komyshuvakha, located in the south-eastern Zaporizhzhia region. At least 26 people were killed, including civilians collecting aid, four police officers, and two members of a rescue crew. Five others are currently being treated in the hospital, including two rescue workers.

The strikes occurred hours after a rare local ceasefire ended in neighboring Kherson. This brief humanitarian truce had enabled a mission to the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky and allowed hundreds of stranded citizens to leave. The attack follows a pattern of recent strikes that have resulted in mounting civilian casualties.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as vile, stating it serves as further proof that Russia does not want any kind of de-escalation or real justice. Meanwhile, authorities reported that multiple Russian drone attacks in other areas of the country injured at least 17 people.
