Two Latvian men arrested after breaching UK military base used by US and NATO

defense & military terrorism

British counter-terrorism police are investigating two Latvian men, aged 32 and 36, who were arrested in the early hours of Thursday after being discovered inside the perimeter of RAF Molesworth. The Cambridgeshire base serves as an intelligence hub for the US military and NATO forces. The arrests occurred around 2 a.m. following an investigation that began four hours earlier when military police found an abandoned vehicle outside the facility.

The men were detained on suspicion of trespass, causing criminal damage, and entering a prohibited place, as police investigate potential national security offenses. The breach of the facility has raised concerns regarding security at the site.

This trespassing incident follows a separate event that occurred near the RAF Fairford military base on September 27. That incident involved a suspected terror plot attempt and led the US military to withdraw B-1 bombers stationed there. British police have stated that there is nothing to suggest at this stage that the two events are linked.
