James Copenhaver, 76, has died in Pittsburgh, according to statements from his lawyer and family released Thursday. Copenhaver was one of three campaign rally attendees shot during a 2024 assassination attempt on then-candidate Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
During the event, a 20-year-old gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop, grazing Trump's right ear with one bullet. Copenhaver, who was in the bleachers, was struck in the arm and the abdomen. These wounds left him with lingering injuries that required him to walk with a cane.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday stated that Copenhaver had been gravely wounded in the shooting and died from complications stemming from those wounds.
