US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has announced a $2.45 billion recovery plan to begin reconstruction and governance in Gaza. The proposal, which was presented to donors during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, is designed to be implemented over six months.
The recovery effort consists of a 66-project blueprint aimed at rehabilitating the enclave's infrastructure and economy. This plan includes estimated spending for hospital repairs, rubble removal, and the provision of temporary housing.
The announcement comes almost a year after Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire that ended two years of war. However, the board acknowledged that enormous hurdles remain, noting that the full medium-term reconstruction of the Palestinian enclave will require approximately $35.2 billion.
The proposal arrives as President Trump's peace plan struggles to stay afloat and has largely stalled since the initial agreement. Meanwhile, some world leaders at the UN General Assembly have criticized Israel’s continued attacks and restrictions on humanitarian access in Gaza.
