Rep. Julia Letlow has won the Republican primary runoff for the Senate in Louisiana, defeating state Treasurer John Fleming. This victory marks another win for President Donald Trump’s slate of preferred candidates.

Letlow and Fleming advanced to the runoff after finishing ahead of incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy in the May 16 primary. Cassidy did not receive enough votes to advance in the contest.

President Trump waded into the race to defeat Cassidy, a critic of Trump's actions following the 2020 vote who voted to convict him following his 2021 impeachment. Letlow, who received Trump's endorsement, ultimately succeeded in the hard-fought race to replace the senator.
