The French Football Federation (FFF) has officially withdrawn its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino's re-election bid. The decision was made unanimously by the FFF executive committee on Thursday, September 10, formally ending ties with the head of world football's governing body.
FFF President Philippe Diallo stated that Infantino has seriously damaged the image and unity of football. Diallo cited events during the World Cup that went against the federation's beliefs and referred to a World Cup sell-off plan revealed in July, which was scrapped after widespread backlash. Infantino has also faced criticism following a failed commercial partnership project.
With this move, the FFF aligns its position with several other European federations, including Belgium, England, Italy, Scotland, and Sweden. In response to these developments, French football leaders have proposed seeking ways to transform how FIFA is run.
In an interview with Le Monde, Diallo further explained the organization's decision and discussed the appointment of Zinédine Zidane as head coach of the French national team. The federation also intends to consult sacked former Fifa official Kevin Lamour.
