Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region killed at least 17 people and wounded dozens overnight. The assault, which involved 29 missiles and 115 drones, targeted seven sites including logistics centers used for dual-use goods and drone components, as well as residential buildings and warehouses. Air raid alerts lasted for more than an hour as explosions and fires lit up the skies over the capital.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's depleted air defenses failed to stop any of the incoming missiles during the attack. He called on allies to provide more US-made Patriot interceptors, noting that delays in supplying ballistic interceptors are causing horrific casualties and destruction. Officials indicated that the country is running desperately low on the interceptor missiles needed to fend off such bombardments.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian long-range drone attacks targeted industrial zones and warehouses across Russia, including sites near Moscow and St. Petersburg. Local officials reported that at least five to six people were killed and several others injured in these strikes, which specifically targeted warehouses belonging to the e-commerce giant Wildberries. Russia's defense ministry claimed more than 300 drones hit Russian cities and warehouses.
Both nations have intensified long-range attacks on critical infrastructure and logistics hubs. In addition to the strikes on Kyiv, Russia reported hitting three cargo ships in the Black Sea. Elsewhere, a soldier killed four people in Russian-controlled Crimea. This escalation comes as both sides ramp up air attacks, with Russia more than doubling its use of missiles in July.
