China has expanded its export-control offensive against Japan, imposing new restrictions on 40 Japanese entities. The move signals a deepening feud with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s government as tensions between the two nations continue to rise.
The Chinese commerce ministry stated the measures target firms and entities it claims are contributing to Japan's remilitarization. This includes blacklisting four of Japan's government defense research institutes and placing dozens of other firms under tightened export restrictions on Monday.
The updated export control list prohibits Chinese firms from selling dual-use products to the listed entities. Among those affected are the National Institute for Defense Studies and the Mitsubishi Electric Defense and Space Technologies Corporation.
