Fenway Sports Group has reached a definitive agreement to sell a minority stake in Liverpool FC to a consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The deal values the Premier League club at more than £5 billion, with the consortium acquiring approximately one-third of the team.
The investment group, known as 1892 Holdings, is led by former QPR chairman Amit Bhatia and includes Bezos’s K5 Sports Fund. Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin is also part of the consortium purchasing the stake in one of the world’s most famous sports teams.
This transaction marks the first known investment into a sports team by Jeff Bezos, one of the world’s richest men. Additionally, the group has an option to become the majority shareholder of the storied club within the next year.
