Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a 3-1 victory over Qatar in a Group B match in Seattle on Wednesday. The win eliminated Qatar from the World Cup and placed Bosnia in a strong position to advance to the knockout stage.
Kerim Alajbegovic opened the scoring with a stunning strike, and an own goal by Mahmoud Abunada doubled the lead. Although Hasan Al Haydos scored for Qatar, Ermin Mahmic sealed the victory for Bosnia in the 80th minute.
Prior to the match, coach Sergej Barbarez stated the team planned to play a more offensive game in this must-win encounter. Having already surprised many by qualifying for the tournament after beating Wales and Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina secured third place in Group B. They are now positioned to be one of the best eight third-placed teams to progress to the round of 32.
