Federal and Minnesota health officials are warning consumers not to eat certain brands of alfalfa sprouts following a rare outbreak involving multiple disease-causing bacteria. The outbreak has been linked to an alfalfa grower in Minnesota.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 55 cases nationally, with the majority of those sickened located in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Among these cases, four people have been hospitalized.

The outbreak has affected dozens of people across 15 states. Officials have identified the contaminants as both E. coli and salmonella.
