Ex-Fed adviser gets over three years in prison for lying about China ties

legal proceedings

John Harold Rogers, a former senior adviser to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, has been sentenced to 38 months in federal prison. The Justice Department announced the sentencing after a jury found Rogers guilty earlier this year of making false statements to investigators.

The investigation centered on whether Rogers shared confidential and restricted data with Chinese intelligence operatives. Although he was acquitted of a more serious charge of conspiracy to commit economic espionage for China, Rogers secretly gave sensitive data to Chinese operatives from 2013 to 2023.

This case marks one of the most prominent U.S. prosecutions alleging that Chinese intelligence has targeted U.S. institutions. The legal action comes as Trump intensifies the pursuit of foreign economic espionage.
