More than 5,000 supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have begun a march from the northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa toward Islamabad. The protesters are demanding the release of the jailed leader.
The march follows the breakdown of talks between the government and Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party two days ago. In addition to Khan's release, the protesters are demanding family visits and his transfer to a hospital.
The Pakistani government has set up roadblocks to keep the protesters at bay, and authorities insist that the marchers will not reach the capital. This movement occurs as the country's political leadership remains in a deadlock.
