Trump seeks talks with Kim Jong Un as North Korea remains coy

international relations political figures

US President Donald Trump is hoping to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un this year and claims a meeting is planned. Trump stated that the North Korean leader has responded to a request to talk, following the scaling down of war games with South Korea.

Despite these claims, North Korea has denied any direct communication and appears unmoved by Trump's overtures. The response from North Korea signals that it wants maximum concessions in return for talks with the United States.

Kim Jong Un's demands include the recognition of his country as a nuclear power and an end to the hostile policy of the U.S. It remains to be seen if these demands will be palatable to Washington.
