Heuermann Pleads Guilty in Gilgo Beach Serial Killings

Rex Heuermann, a Long Island architect, pleaded guilty Wednesday to the murder of eight women. The crimes date back to the 1990s and haunted Long Island for years, stymying investigators until recent DNA evidence led to his arrest in 2023.

Heuermann appeared in court in Riverhead, Long Island, and changed his plea to guilty in the murders of women whose remains were mostly found along the coast. He was taken into custody in July 2023 after a lengthy investigation.

The architect admitted to strangling all eight victims. He initially faced charges for seven murders, but added an eighth admission during the court proceedings.

The guilty plea brings an end to a notorious serial killer case that has captivated and disturbed the region for decades.
