President Donald Trump made his first public appearance on Wednesday following the Republican Party's historic losses and the Democrats' landslide victory in the midterm elections.
Rather than addressing the election results or the party's wipeout, the president hosted a celebratory event at the site of an unfinished, sprawling White House ballroom. He spent more than 20 minutes rhapsodizing about the renovation projects in Washington, which stood in stark contrast to his new political reality.
During the event, Trump congratulated his team, calling the situation a miracle. He focused on the features of the ballroom, telling reporters and cameras to envision marble floors and chandeliers all over, adding that it was going to be good.
