President Donald Trump is sharply criticizing U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro after her office moved to drop criminal charges against former Olympian and canoeist David Hearn. Hearn had been accused of deliberately damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool following a recent renovation.
In a court filing on Friday, Pirro's office moved to dismiss the case, asserting that the damage to the pool was caused by shoddy construction rather than vandals.
The decision has led to a public rift, with Trump faulting his handpicked federal prosecutor for Washington, DC. While both the president and Pirro had previously raged against Hearn, Pirro’s office now blames Trump’s Department of Interior for the issues surrounding the pool.
