Wildfires devastate forests across Europe as temperatures rise

Wildfires are raging across several parts of southern Europe. Hundreds of firefighters are battling infernos that have devastated an area over twice the size of Manhattan.

The blazes have burnt thousands of hectares in France, Spain, and Portugal. In some of these locations, temperatures were predicted to reach 40ºC on Sunday.

These fires come on the heels of massive heat waves in much of the region. The World Weather Attribution group stated that a heatwave in June, during which thousands of excess deaths were registered, would have been virtually impossible without climate change.
