President Donald Trump has approved the execution by firing squad of former Army Maj. Nidal Hasan. According to the Pentagon, the date and location for the execution have not yet been set.
Hasan, a US Army psychiatrist, was convicted of carrying out an Al-Qaeda inspired terrorist mass shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas in 2009. During the attack, Hasan shot and killed 13 people and wounded 32 others.
Following a court-martial, a military jury sentenced Hasan to death in 2013. His execution would be the first carried out by the US military since 1961, and the use of a firing squad would mark the first time the military has used that specific method since World War II.
