Police in southern Germany have responded to an explosion involving an unidentified object near the main train station in Augsburg. The blast, which occurred in a building passageway, caused minor injuries and blew out nearby windows. The transport hub was temporarily closed on Wednesday morning following the detonation and the discovery of a suspicious object.
Concurrent investigations are underway regarding damage to energy infrastructure across the country. In eastern Germany, homemade projectiles were used to damage power lines. Additionally, a malfunction at a power station near Cologne in the west is being probed as a deliberate act of sabotage.
Counter-terrorism officials are investigating these incidents as possible acts of sabotage. Investigators are examining the possibility of hybrid attacks carried out by either a foreign state or far-left extremists.
