Eighth seed Ben Shelton reached the U.S. Open quarter-finals on Sunday, sealing a 6-2 6-3 6-4 victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Shelton joins fellow Americans Frances Tiafoe and Alex Michelsen in the quarterfinals. The strong run by American men boosts hopes of producing the first American men's Grand Slam champion in more than two decades, ending a drought that dates back to 2003.
Shelton will next face Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday. While Shelton has not yet defeated Alcaraz, he has learned from their past meetings heading into the contest.
