Air India crash: Families and pilots seek truth and justice a year later

One year has passed since Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed in Ahmedabad, killing 260 people. The flight was scheduled to travel from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel airport in Gujarat to Gatwick on June 12 of last year.

Relatives of the victims continue to struggle to obtain answers about the disaster. Among them is Sagar Patel, a business manager from London, who recalls the traditional phone call his mother always made after boarding the aircraft to tell him she would see him later.

The families remain frustrated as India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is expected to issue only an interim report. They continue to wait for a final report explaining why their relatives died.

Alongside the search for answers, some victims' families are seeking reparation. This includes a grieving father who is currently fighting deportation related to a lottery visa.
