Trump says Iran violated ceasefire with drone attacks in Strait of Hormuz

armed conflict defense & military

President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement after cargo ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz were attacked. The assault, which occurred on Thursday, June 25, saw a cargo ship hit by an unknown projectile. This incident marks the first attack by Iran since a deal was completed last week to pause the war for 60 days.

The US president described the action as a foolish violation of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire. During the event, American forces shot down three drones that were aimed at the damaged cargo vessel.

The attack has halted efforts to evacuate hundreds of ships and thousands of sailors stranded in the Gulf. Consequently, the International Maritime Organization paused evacuation operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
