Two Palestinians were killed in separate shootings in the occupied West Bank on Friday. Israeli settlers fatally shot 17-year-old Karim Sanad Shalaldeh, while Israeli forces killed 58-year-old Fathi Khazem.
The death of the teenager followed a rock-throwing incident. An Israeli man guarding a group of Jewish settlers who walked onto Palestinian village land opened fire towards Palestinians who confronted them, killing the 17-year-old and wounding a 70-year-old man.
Palestinian and Israeli authorities offered divergent accounts of the incident, which occurred as settler violence has surged across the occupied territory. Amid these tensions, HRW has called for sanctions and the suspension of military aid as dozens of Palestinian communities remain at risk of erasure.
