Iran strikes Israel, Gulf; US, Israel retaliate

international relations armed conflict defense & military

Israel launched new strikes in Tehran, following reports of discussions between the United States and Iran. The Israeli Defense Forces stated they will continue operations as directed by the Israeli government.

U.S. President Donald Trump initially indicated talks with Iran were underway and suggested postponing strikes on energy infrastructure. However, Iran denied claims of “very good” talks, continuing strikes against targets in the region and maintaining pressure on the Strait of Hormuz.

A Semafor report noted Israel was not involved in the Washington-Tehran discussions. Trump’s 48-hour ultimatum recently neared expiration as the strikes on Tehran unfolded.

The Israeli military confirmed it will proceed with operations until receiving different instructions from the government.
