Court Rejects Anthropic’s Bid to Block Pentagon Label

A federal appeals court in Washington D.C. has rejected Anthropic PBC’s request to block the Pentagon’s national security blacklisting of the artificial intelligence company. The court found Anthropic failed to meet the requirements for an emergency stay in the case.

This ruling represents a setback for Anthropic in its dispute with the Department of Defense regarding the use of AI in warfare. The Pentagon labeled the company a supply chain risk, prompting the legal challenge.

However, Anthropic faces conflicting rulings as another appeals court reached a different conclusion in a separate legal challenge. A California judge has also blocked plans for a broader government ban on the company’s technology.

The AI start-up is currently involved in two separate legal actions related to the Pentagon’s decision.
