An unusual cluster of malaria cases has been reported at Frankfurt Airport, where six employees have become infected.
The cause of the infections is believed to be a mosquito that traveled by plane from a malaria-endemic area to Germany, likely in July.
Four of the infected employees are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. Reports on the fatalities within the cluster vary between one and two deaths. In response to the situation, mosquito traps have been deployed at the Frankfurt hub.
