Italy has extradited a Chinese national to the United States on hacking charges. Italian police confirmed the extradition on Monday.

The individual, identified as Xu Zewei, is accused of participating in a Chinese government hacking group. This group allegedly broke into thousands of U.S. organizations and stole COVID-19-related research.

The FBI alleges that Xu Zewei hacked U.S. government entities, research institutes, and universities involved in vaccine research during 2020 and 2021, at the height of the pandemic.
