The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, representing a coalition of major automakers, has urged U.S. lawmakers to pass legislation permanently banning the sale, import, and manufacture of Chinese connected vehicles. The group is calling on House and Senate leaders to implement this ban before the end of the year.
The requested ban would target the domestic sale, import, and manufacturing of Chinese connected vehicles, as well as their associated hardware and software.
The automakers cited concerns over business practices and the threats these vehicles pose to domestic economic and national security interests. Specifically, the group warned that Chinese cars can collect and send consumer and vehicle data to Beijing.
