Former NBA player and assistant coach Damon Jones has become the first person to plead guilty in a gambling sweep that led to the arrests of more than 30 people.
Jones pleaded guilty on Tuesday to federal charges that he gave inside information to gamblers and took part in rigged poker games.
Federal prosecutors charged 34 defendants across two indictments, alleging sports betting and mafia-linked rigged poker games. The sweep resulted in the arrests of reputed mobsters and other basketball figures.
