The Republican-led U.S. Senate blocked a Democratic-led resolution that would have barred President Donald Trump from taking military action against Cuba without congressional approval.
The vote demonstrates how Republicans continue to stand behind the president as he acts unilaterally to exert American force across a range of global conflicts, including those involving Iran and Venezuela.
President Trump has warned that Cuba is next after launching military operations against Venezuela and Iran. Meanwhile, Senator Tim Kaine stated that if anyone did to the U.S. what is being done to Cuba, it would be considered an act of war.
