Russian soldier kills three civilians and one colleague in Crimea

armed conflict defense & military

A Russian soldier in Russian-held Crimea opened fire on his colleagues and civilians in an apparent random rampage. Officials report that the gunman killed four people and wounded others.

The soldier allegedly killed one fellow soldier and wounded another in a fragging incident before turning his weapon on civilians. Three civilians in a nearby village were shot dead during the attack.

Crimea, which was illegally annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014, has for weeks been the target of Ukrainian retaliatory attacks. These attacks are aimed at disrupting the logistics of Russian forces deployed in southern Ukraine.
