Sony, Honda Halt EV Project, Afeela Dream Ends

Sony Honda Mobility has discontinued development of both the Afeela 1 sedan and a planned follow-up SUV. The decision comes less than a year after opening a showroom in California dedicated to the vehicles.

The move follows Honda’s recent retreat from broader electric vehicle plans in the U.S., leaving the joint venture without necessary technical foundations.

Honda and Sony have agreed to scrap joint EV development and will now rethink their partnership amid financial challenges for the automaker. The Afeela 1, initially intended as their first model, and the Afeela 2 are no longer moving forward.
