Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his cabinet met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and German government ministers in Berlin for broad government consultations – the first such meeting since 2004. The discussions covered several key areas, including Ukraine’s potential EU membership and European involvement in ongoing peace talks.
At least ten agreements were reached during the consultations. Germany is emerging as a key backer for Kyiv, particularly with US-led peace talks stalled.
A comprehensive bilateral drone deal was also finalized, granting Germany access to Ukraine’s drone expertise in exchange for increased assistance to Ukraine in its defense against Russia.
