A crowded field of 10 candidates has spent approximately a fortnight barnstorming the state, visiting diners, church halls, and recreation centers. Among those on the ballot is Darline Graham, the late senator's sister, who was tapped to serve out the final months of her brother's term as interim senator.
The president backs Darline Graham, but each contender in the South Carolina Senate primary has found themselves out of step with him in some way. Because of this, a runoff is likely.
