Unidentified drone explodes near gas pipeline at Bulgarian-Romanian border

defense & military

A drone from an unidentified source entered Bulgarian airspace from Romania early Saturday and exploded near the village of Kardam. The incident occurred in far northeast Bulgaria, approximately 100 meters over the shared border of the two NATO member nations.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev stated that the drone carried a significant amount of explosives. Despite the blast, there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure, although the explosion took place near the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline.

Prime Minister Radev further noted that both Bulgarian and Romanian authorities had failed to pick up the drone as it made its way through their respective airspaces.
