James Roscoe, Britain's second most senior diplomat in Washington, has abruptly left his post. The Foreign Office confirmed the departure early Wednesday, stating simply that Roscoe has left his role.

Serving as the deputy head of mission at the British embassy since 2022, Roscoe held one of the most senior and high-profile positions in the British diplomatic service. He had also stood in as the interim ambassador following the removal of Peter Mandelson.

Prior to this assignment, Roscoe worked for the royal family and the United Nations. No official explanation was provided for his sudden departure.
