Nintendo hikes Switch 2 price and warns of weaker sales and profits

Nintendo Co. has announced a price increase for its Switch 2 console, raising the price from $450 to $500. The company acknowledged that the move is due to pressure on the profitability of the flagship device as it enters its second year on the market.

In the United States, the price will rise from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1, a $50 bump that Nintendo attributed to changes in market conditions. In Japan, the price will increase from 49,980 yen to 59,980 yen, a 20 percent rise effective May 25.

This pricing change follows a period of significant financial growth for the videogame maker, which saw its net profit rise 52 percent for the year ended March.
