Former England captain and manager Kevin Keegan has died at the age of 75. The announcement was made on Monday, July 20, by his family and his former club, Newcastle United.

Keegan passed away after a battle with cancer. While his family first revealed his illness in January 2026, Keegan himself disclosed in June 2026 that he had stage four cancer, the most advanced stage. He had undergone treatment in January and died seven weeks after revealing the stage four diagnosis, surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.

An iconic striker, Keegan played for Liverpool, Hamburg, Newcastle, and England. He was a stalwart member of Liverpool’s First Division and European championship teams during the 1970s and was named European footballer of the year twice during his time with Hamburg.
