The Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague has ruled that India must uphold and observe its obligations under a decades-old treaty governing river waters shared with Pakistan. The international tribunal stated that the Indus Waters Treaty stays fully in force, despite being suspended amid bilateral tensions.
The tribunal further ordered India to limit construction and curb work on hydropower projects in the Kashmir region, specifically ordering the curb of work on two projects.
New Delhi has responded to the ruling by stating that the Permanent Court of Arbitration has no jurisdiction over its sovereign choice.
