Taiwan opposition leader Cheng Li-wun arrived in China Tuesday for a six-day visit, stating it is a “journey for peace.” She received an invitation from President Xi Jinping and hopes to meet with him, aiming to “preserve peace is to preserve Taiwan.”
The visit occurs as Beijing increases military and political pressure on the democratically governed island, renewing efforts to encourage Taiwanese support for “reunification.” Li-wun, who previously advocated for Taiwan’s independence, now focuses on improving relations with Beijing.
This trip is scheduled before a planned summit between President Trump and Xi Jinping next month, where Taiwan is anticipated to be a key discussion point. Simultaneously, a Taiwanese minister reported on the current deployment of Chinese warships around the island.
